Southampton University Work with Southampton Football Club

As the start of the Premier Cup approaches, fitness and keeping away from injury are at the forefront on many footballers minds.

Rickie Lambert, joint top English goal scorer for 2012-13 is backing the new initiative, which was launched on the 10th June. The aim of researchers at the University of Southampton is to understand why some sports injuries develop into debilitating osteoarthritis in later life.

 

The research form part of the £3m Arthritis Research UK Centre for Sport, Exercise and Osteoarthritis, which hopes to reduce the impact caused by playing in both elite an recreational sport and the university will be working with Southampton Football Club. "On behalf of all professional footballers I’d like to show my support for the new centre’s research", Rickie Lambert, Southampton Football Club.

 

The university continues to invest in its facilities and attract research grants and is ranked in the top 20 of various tables for universities in the UK and have approximately 25,000 students.
