University of Sunderland Ranked Best New University in North East
For the second year running the University of Sunderland has been ranked the best new University in the North-East in the Guardian University Guide for 2012. The University also achieved 4th place nationally among new Universities in the guide, which is recognised as one of the most relevant and comprehensive measures of higher education provision in the UK. It is worthy of note that Sunderland is one of only four post ‘92 universities to break into the top 50 of the rankings, a major achievement for a relatively young institution.
Student satisfaction is measured through Student feedback which plays a large part in how the rankings shape up, with the National Student Survey - which measures student satisfaction - used extensively, it also looks at another important criteria of employability.
Professor Peter Fidler, University of Sunderland Vice-Chancellor, said: "The rise in the Guardian rankings is very pleasing indeed. It is down in large part to the strong student experience at Sunderland, which was highlighted last year when we received the Times Higher Student Experience Award."
"Not only do Sunderland students receive a very good higher education - we have the highest possible quality ratings - they also receive the life skills and work experience that makes them very attractive to employers."
Sunderland University has spent over £130m over the past few years ensuring its facilities meet the needs of the modern-day student. The latest addition at its City Campus include CitySpace, a £12m sports facility, and the £8.5m Sciences Complex, which will be very attractive to prospective students.
