The University of Huddersfield has submitted plans to Kirklees Council to create a brand new flagship building on their campus.

Following the recognition they received for their work in the field of employment, the university has announced their latest plans for redevelopment with the creation of a new home for the School of Law and School of Music, Humanities and Media.

The new building situated on the corner of its campus opposite Shorehead roundabout, the new six storey building will provide a further 7,500 square metres of space to the university, adding a range of new teaching spaces including multiple tiered lecture theatres.

This new addition to the University of Huddersfield is due for completion in 2016 and will be connected to the recently completed Student Central Building, finished in January 2014 at a cost of £22.5 million. This new phase of development will take the university’s investment in the campus to more than £150 million over the past two decades, having redeveloped a number of the campus’ historic buildings and built several new blocks.

The university plans to continue using the existing law, music and humanities teaching spaces for their current function, allowing the university to offer more spaces to students in the future as admissions restrictions on universities are fully lifted for the 2015/2016 academic year.
