Construction at care home Calderdale House is progressing well as ground works begin to take place.

Since our last update, work has been continuing at the Calderdale House construction site. All of the buildings foundations have now been completed, with the buttress wall and the base of the transfer deck also finished. Work on the diversion of surface water into drains and the laying of sewage pipes has also been completed.

Away from the site, construction of the timber frame for the building is already underway and is due to arrive on the site in January. The developer is undertaking of all ground and superstructure works including stone work, roofing and rendering.

Looking ahead, the slab for the lower ground floor will be poured later this week and the construction of the retaining walls is due to start next week. Contractors have been sourced for the completion of the project’s joinery and plastering, whilst the developers are also looking for teams to construct the laundry and kitchen facilities on site.

One of the most exciting elements of the project is that planning permission has been given for an expansion of the site from the initial 65 bed unit to an 81 bed facility, allowing Calderdale House to be completed with a unique dementia unit, specifically designed to offer specialist care. The project has been planned to accommodate the more extensive construction needed for the additional 16 suites, with contingencies in place to ensure that the construction programme remains on schedule for completion in Q3 2015.
