First Construction Update on the Glass Works

Since taking control over the Glass Works in late May, the development team behind the student accommodation project have been making great progress towards beginning construction work on the site this coming September.

With the target of completing construction in time for students to move into the development for the 2015/16 academic year next September, the project is now well on its way to beginning the on-site construction process. The developers have ordered a further phase of site investigations to be completed, allowing a detailed remediation strategy to be prepared and to allow the completions of the structural design.

The project will use a combination of traditional timber-framed technology and the exciting modular construction solution built in China. The system has been used across many projects recently including the Royal Albert Docks Hotel, built by the same team behind the Glass Works, allowing for an efficient and high quality construction process.

In addition to ensuring construction is progressing well, work on the design process is also moving forward. With the design of the floor plans now nearing completion, attention is turning to the interiors of the building.
