The University of Huddersfield has the best qualified teaching staff in the UK, according to new research, contributing to increased demand for student accommodation in the town.

A new report compiled by the Higher Education Funding Council for England, has revealed that the University of Huddersfield placed at the first place for qualified staff – with over 90% of the institution’s academics holding a teaching qualification.

With the UK government introducing a new Teaching Excellence framework, a high score is vital when determining funding levels and student recruitment.

Commenting on the report, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Huddersfield, Professor Time Thornton, said:

‘Everyone at Huddersfield puts the experience of our students at the heart of their work. I am delighted that these figures confirm the University of Huddersfield’s position as [the] sector’s leader in our commitment to high quality teaching and learning.’

The focus on delivering a good experience for its students has enabled the town to see a strong demand from students looking for high-quality learning.

As the demand from students remains high in Huddersfield, a vast under-supply of student accommodation has seen the need for new student halls increase.

Purpose built student accommodation (PBSA) saw increased interest from UK property investors in 2016, with those purchasing seeing the benefits of the stability of the asset class and continuing demand across the UK.

Last month, Knight Frank released a new report, stating that strong demand for the asset class from investors has led to an expansion of investments in student property market.
