Tourist figures are improving all the time at considerable pace. 2007 saw an increase of 14% and 2008 figures indicate an increase of over 15% in tourism to the area.
Much of the increase is in the domestic market but visitors from areas such as the UK has seen an increase of 85%.
The island is accessible having its own large International Airport (Santiago Marino) and receives flights from Europe, USA and Canada. There are, we understand, currently approx. 12 daily flights between the island and Caracas. There are also flights from most of the other main cities in Venezuela. The ferry is used by locals as it allows them to bring their cars. The Ferry terminal, Punta de Piedras, offers crossings between Margarita , Puerto la Cruz, Cumana and Trinidad

The island boasts over 50 beaches and coves within 167km of coastline and this provides a variety of tourist areas and quiet fishing villages . The tourist can benefit from an array of water sports and is popular for Scuba Diving and snorkelling. Margarita is also world famous for windsurfing.

Margarita island is situated in the Caribbean Sea just off the north east coast of Venezuela. Margarita is the main island with the two smaller islands, Coche and Cubagua, make up the state of Nueva Esparta. Margarita Climate
Isla Margarita enjoys with one of the most fantastic climates in the world. The temperature only changes about 4ºC over the whole year. Daytime temperatures at Playa El Agua on the north coast range from a high of 30ºC (86ºF) in September to lows of 26ºC (80ºF) in January. Night-time temperatures are about 3ºC cooler. The temperatures on the south side of the Island (Juan Griego) can be a few degrees warmer as they receive a land wind while the north side receives a sea breeze.
Margarita Island is outside the hurricane zone with most storms going north . There is no fog or hail and the rain, when it comes, seldom lasts very long. 320 days a year with 8 hours of sun or more.
