Bulgaria is a popular choice for Britain’s young investors

16 March 2007

Reports recently released from National Savings and Investment says that one in four young Brits looking to invest in the property market are doing so in the popular European emerging market of Bulgaria. With prices in the UK becoming far out of reach and apartments and villas selling on the Bulgarian coast and ski resorts for as little as 39,000 Euros, Britains young money makers are heading across the shores to jump on the ladder and secure their futures.

The property prices in Bulgaria continue to rise and despite some of the recent press there is no sign of a downward trend. With growth rates being expected to reach 10-12% over the year, but acheiving this in the first 3 months, UK buyers are still keen to take advantage of everything that Bulgaria has to offer.

Nearly 80% of the UK’s investors are now looking to buy abroad, this is acording to a major high street lender, more and more requests are being received for first time buyer mortgages to enable them to buy property in Europe.

Low cost airlines and more and more flights help to make these resorts more accessible, and with Bansko fast becoming the most exclusive number one European ski destination, the property market here is still a possibility for the ordinary investor. The maket here has been described as “dynamic” and has outstripped all expectations of a slowing down in prices and popularity.

“Demand remains strong” says Paul Cooper Director of Principal International, a leading UK based overseas property investment company, “and the outlook for Bansko and the capital of Sofia in particular looks very positive”.
